The story behind hotelshopUK - how what we got to where we are today.
Established in 1999, hotelshopuk specialises in offering expert knowledge and industry advice on hotels and travel to both the corporate and leisure traveller.
Initially set up to serve the leisure market, hotelshopuk was known as the discount leisure break specialist with access to exclusive hotel leisure rates promoted through major distribution channels. The corporate division known as Hotelshop Onbusiness, was founded in 2000 and we soon became members of various key industry associations including HBAA, ABTA, Advantage and ITM.
Having experienced extreme devastation in 2007 after the notorious Midlands flooding, hotelshopuk embarked on their own disaster recovery plan to ensure the business would not only recover from the floods, but would also thrive through the impending recession. Having recovered from the floods with a team of 20 in 2007, we commenced a very calculated strategic business plan so we continued to grow during the recession. Now our team has more than quadrupled standing at over 100, and we are still growing.
After becoming ABTA bonded we decided to further our travel connections and joined Advantage Travel consortium to bring the expertise, connections and buying power of a recognised and successful business travel consortium that we required as a hotel booking agent. As part of the Advantage Travel partnership, we are collectively recognised as one of the largest buying powers in the industry.
As part of our current strategic plan we have recently invested in updating our corporate online booking solution and have launched our suite of Mercury booking tools. We have embraced virtual card technology, which revolutionises the way hotels and travel are transacted and also introduced our online data management tool, Mercury data, which allows key clients to access their management information through online dashboards 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
